Tho I still think that having some form of a separate public mirror would be valuable Currently there is this one centralized crates.io, and other than that there are just private registries. Ofc there are other options, and registries aren't even technically necessary since cargo can use git repos themselves, but I feel something like this could help with adopting community to idea of switching from relying on a central authority
@eri I checked and idk there's nothing on the forum about this and the onsite forum is for now offline cloudflare always online keeps the main site working and I think program downloada there still work so I'd still recommend it if it works
@eri my favourite is MakeMKV it is technically paid, but has a free trial which is basically perpentual, and works with ripping Blurays (I checked website and apparently it's dead? but has cloudflare always online turned on and the program download seems to still work so idk) edit: nvm it's up it probably just had some temporary hickup lol edit 2: ok idk whats happening rn it sometimes works sometimes doesn't, damn I hope they didn't kill it

Would you theoretically be interested in a hosted, public registry? Essentially alternative to crates.io, but without depending on Github?
I was thinking about hosting something like that, where anyone could host their projects publically, but without need to use github account to register for it (and also just have some sort of mirror so that there's some alternative to centralized crates)
(Yes I am aware you can run your own registry, that's not the point, but if you think it kinda ruins the idea itself pls do tell if you want, I don't think so but maybe someone can think of a good reason)
